The first volume of the "out of this furshlugginer world" adventures of the awe-filled Planet Comics presents stories that appeared from Fiction House over a thirteen-year period ending in 1953. They're all here - Flint Baker, Reef Ryan, The Space Rangers, Gale Allen, Star Pirate, Mysta of the Moon, Norge Benson, plus many more and a bevy of the most scantily-clad females you're likely to see outside of Silvio Dante's Bada Bing strip joint in The Sopranos. This volume collects the first four issues from January 1940 to April 1940. Forward by Carmine Infantino.

Planet Comics 1940 v. 1 Fiction House Collected Works 9781848634619 Books Reviews

The real appeal of these old Fiction House comics (Planet, Fight, Rangers, Sheena, Wings, Indians, Jumbo, etc. etc.) is not in their narratives, but rather in their artwork. I am old enough to have read these comics when they first appeared in the 1950s. My friends and I back then were thrilled almost exclusively by the "good girl" art. Shapely babes graced every issue, whether they were swinging through the jungle, straddling an airplane, or flying through outer space clad only in a translucent bubble. I rabidly collected every issue I could find, along with all the E.C.s. There must have been many thousands of other fan-addicts back then, judging by the incredibly inflated prices these old comics bring on the collectors market today. If we want to judge these comics strictly by the merits of their stories, we would have to toss almost every comic that ever produced in the trash. The covers were fantastic.
This is early 1950s scifi at it's cheesy best. A great volume to own. Beautifully packaged.
The stories are wacky-- there's nothing like Golden Age Comic Book Sci Fi-- expect the unexpected and if they make the least bit of sense it's likely by accident.
The print quality is bargain basement definitely taken from weak copies on a color scan. So don't expect the restored quality of the DC or Marvel Hardcovers. But still, great to see this old material reprinted.
