Life’s a Beach—Until Murder Rolls in With the Tide
A 50-million-dollar salvage operation. An expert diver dead at the bottom of the sea. An elegant mermaid in a black Porsche—and an open invitation to dip into the troubled waters of her marriage. Cape Cod’s Aristotle “Soc” Socarides, part-time fisherman, part-time private eye, is swimming with the sharks. Only problem is, he’s the bait…and blood is beginning to boil to the surface.
Soc didn’t think he could get in much deeper, but he’d better think again. A family debt of honor comes due—a debt only he can settle—plunging him into the middle of a lethal search for buried treasure. Now Soc’s about to discover how deadly the Cape’s currents can be. Snarled in a net of smuggling, treachery, and revenge, he’s finding out that no matter how far down you go, nothing’s harder to salvage than the truth.
"Absolutely the best private-eye mystery I've read. I can't wait for the next one."
Bestselling Author, Clive Cussler

I bought this book because I love suspense and because the description promised Hellenism and Cape Cod. (My dad's from Greece and my family has had second homes on the Cape the past three generations.) I was not disappointed – I totally loved all the references to Greek-American culture and the setting of Massachusetts' storied peninsula. The main character is fantastic too – A Greek-American wise-ass with enough intellectual heft and military skill to succeed at part-time sleuthing. The rest of the time he eeks out a living on a friend's fishing boat and spends it in watering holes. An intelligent college grad from a prosperous family, "Soc" is simply most at home among the "townies" on the Cape. His characters remind me of the locals where I live – indeed, the people who make up any town anywhere. I felt completely at home in Soc's world and I was submerged into this irresistible tale as quickly and completely as the ill-fated murder victim in the opening sequence.Product details

Cool Blue Tomb Aristotle Socarides series Book 1 edition by Paul Kemprecos Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This story is a very interesting read and is a great outline of how all sharks are not found in the water. The author does a good job of telling about the characters and circumstances with colorful and meaningful descriptions. As in life it is sometimes difficult to tell the good guys from the bad guys so careful observation is provided in the authorr's descriptions that keep the reader hanging on to the details on every page. Good read that is a page turner and is easy to get into each time the reader picks up the storyline even if it has been a few days since being immersed in the story.
This was a very enjoyable books in the beginning to the end. It was a bit slow to start with but I found myself sucked in by the intrigued and the storyline going in different directions it kept me wondering what was going to happen next and I will never really sure about the next seen. So very good book and I enjoyed it very much thank you
The milieu – Cape Cod – and the character – ex-cop, fisherman, diver, PI – were a refreshing change from the usual big city, hard as nails private eye novel.
Aristotle ‘Soc’ Socarides, the main character, has a distinctive voice with some wry descriptions of people and places. And he’s not the usual tough guy PI, always spoiling for a fight and using brawn to conquer the bad guys. It’s refreshing to see a PI use his brains to get out of tight spots.
It took a while for this book to get going but once it started to roll, it rolled fast. Occasional scenes of ‘Soc’ interacting with his family gave the reader a chance to catch his breath.
There were lots of typographic and punctuation errors in this download.
This book wasn’t good enough to make me want to read more in the series, but I won’t pass them up if they come my way.
I didn't expect a lot from this book. I am reading it because I have been looking for books to read. Kemprecos name comes up often if you are a Cussler reader. I may have to try some other co-authors of Cussler in future book searches. This book by Kemprecos is okay, not great, not bad. The author gets carried away with descriptions. Did a writing teacher get him onto that track but forget to tell Kemprecos to not overdue it? Someone should be editing these books as well. Many spelling erros becumb distrctng. that said, the story was interesting. The characters were interesting, but there wasn't much depth into their psyches. The beginning of the book overdoes it on Farrell and Soc doing the blood brothers, yahoo, 'semper fi' schtick in exchange for info. Read it for an interesting story with not much suspense, a bit of mystery, a bit oft sea-faring, a bit of almost sex, a decent amount of killing and a couple of ridiculous explosions and undersea tossing-around. I'll try one more book in the Soc series.
P.I. Aristotle Socarides is hired to find some missing papers. Things get more complicated as murder, lost treasure, and drug smuggling crop up. The writing is very good and the mistakes are minimal. The characters are mostly very well done, the main ones anyway. The mystery has many twists and turns. Some of the situations are stretched to the limit, but it is fiction. Bottom line, it is a good and fun read. I enjoyed the story.
A P.I. mystery, set in Provincetown, Cape Cod , Mass. Aristotle 'Soc' Socarides is a Viet Nam vet, was on the Boston police force, left that, and became a mix of wharf bum, cod fisherman, and part time private eye, living in a boathouse on the water.
His Greek family lives a couple of hours away where they operate a very lucrative wholesale pizza business. What? You never heard of Greek pizza? Yeah, me neither. But what do I know, I'm from New York City, home of John's Pizza on Bleecker St. in the Village.
Great mystery, really excellent writing, characters who will amuse you, and a setting that will make you want to move to Cape Cod -- at least for three quarters of the year. I think we can forget about the winter season there. And some nice info on the salvage industry, and some interesting history tidbits as well. What more can a reader ask of a P.I. Mystery? Right?
There are five more books in the series, and if you like your P.I.'s more philosophical than hard-boiled, I recommend you check them out.
As an avid Cussler fan, I thought I would try Paul Kemprecos on his own. I was a bit surprised at first as it felt like I was reading a Mickey Spillane potboiler. OK, first novel, interesting protagonist, familiar setting. As the story continued, I saw less of Mike Hammer and more of Soc Socarides, I got a bit lost in the jumble of characters, but began to enjoy the tale as it unfolded. By the end of the book, I decided to get the next one in the series and see where it goes. Paul Kemprecos' NUMA Files co-authored books with Clive Cussler are easily the best of that series thus far. I wish he was still writing them.
