I like that this story the character had some history before they fell in love, of course the sleep together before that. I don't like a story about adultery or that makes it sound ok, but in this case it was the husbands wish. I liked that David (the dead husband) was a well loved guy. She did do the typical I care but it can't be love. The story was long but it was an easy read. Though her Prologue wasn't want it should have been. Most author uses a prologue to let you know some history before the true story begins, her Prologue wasn't that at all. It started with Harcourt riding to Anny keep, no history. This was a good book and I will read more.

I thought the middle of this book was slow and boring. I could have read the first few chapters then skipped and read the last few and I would have the whole story. Something was missing in the romance between Annys and Harcourt.
I loved the whole Murrays series!
You can't go wrong with Hannah Howell's Murray Family Series. It's interesting to see how the characters are related to each other and how the family really stands up for everyone in times of need.
It reads as if it was written by an inexperienced writer. Same phrases are used over and over and the story never really grabs you or takes off. It was a chore to read. I'm glad I'm done. Don't think I'll read more by this author
Hannah Howell did another outstanding story. Kept you turning the pages and your interest high. The lady can sure spin a wonderful tale.
I have been privileged to read many of Ms Howell's books, and each was remarkable in its own right. However, The Highland Guard has a little different plot to it. The characters seemed more down-to-earth and real -- people the reader would pick as friends perhaps. Comfortable. I particularly love the tales taking place in Scotland. I made a brief visit there many years ago and would have loved just staying there, never returning home. The character of Benet is so real for a boy that age. And, his antics are adorable! The romantic angle between Annys and Sir Harcourt is certainly different, as well. The nemesis, Sir Adam, is the stereotypical bad guy -- bad to the bone! I gladly and strongly recommend The Highland Guard to anyone seeking a fun, romantic tale with strong characters, a different twist in the romance arena, and wonderful dialog between the characters.
I just loved this book..... I couldn't put it down. The Murray Family series is one of my favorites that I refuse to miss out on a world wind of adventure. The book did exactly that, and what an adventure it was... Fact.... Greed is a powerful sin and reason for blood shed, but the Murray Clan and all their married additions out shine the ugly within their world, you can count on the Honor bound Murray family to step up to the plate and stand before evil to right a wrong. This book has everything you want in a book, Excitement, Suspense, Mystery, Sorrow, Bliss, Steamy Romance, Laughter and you will laugh when you meet Roberta and Roban who is a feisty little bugger...... Grab this book and enjoy the wild ride you wont regret it...... Happy Reading
