Some books are fun to read and others are skimmed through to find the meat of it while others may ramble on and eventually are laid aside, half read, to gather dust. There is a Fantastic tale and story telling here. This story captured me from the beginning and held my attention through the entire book. I hated to put it down when life had other plans. I felt some of the emotions that were expressed in words in this book. I am completing a few tasks now, so when a dreary day arrives, there is more quality time for reading the second book.Tags : The Pygmy Dragon (Shapeshifter Dragon Legends Book 1) - Kindle edition by Marc Secchia, Joshua Smolders. The Pygmy Dragon Shapeshifter Dragon Legends Book 1 edition by Marc Secchia Joshua Smolders Children eBooks Reviews
Dragon stories are one of my favorite genres, however not all are worth reading. Many have been deleted.. This book is very intriguing, the plot excellent, well written, and characters well defined so that I didn't have to keep going back. Surprising ending, and I have already downloaded the sequel. So, I would definitely recommend it to fantasy fiction aficionados.
A pygmy raised in a zoo turns out to be a mythical onyx dragon! The author has good story-telling skills the world he builds and the characters he creates are vivid, colourful, unforgettable. It is an initiation journey, a lost child coming into her power and acknowledging and embracing all the experiences that formed her. The book debates some major issues being different, power, learning, pain. Good book.
I'm picky about dragon books--I've read a lot of books where the dragons were written badly, or simply not there. The Temeraire books became my high water mark for dragon books, and this book has achieved that high ranking.
Of all the things which excited me about this story--islands above a poisonous sea of clouds, dragon ships, intriguing cultures unique to each island--was that the heroine is a Pygmy. Hard to get much more diverse than that! She even starts the book locked in a zoo with a couple of giant apes.
The writing is detailed and rich, on par with Robin Hobb. Any time I thought the book would get boring, it threw a new twist into the mix.
It ends on a good note, but with lots of things unresolved for book 2. I await it with excitement!
Ok so here's the problem. I started with Dragon Friend but it's sequel isn't out yet. It comes out next month. So I purchased Aranya set about 700 years later in the same universe. Before I could read it's sequel I found out I should have read this one Pygmy Dragon set 100+ years earlier first. So I did only to find it needs a sequel too which doesn't even have an estimated publishing date as far as I can tell. Why is the last set of books the only ones finished? It is frustrating and confusing. Still as you can see by the 5 stars I am very impressed by this author and all his books so far. I just wish I could have read them all in order.
With these books you will find humans, dragons and shifters. There is magic and clean romance. There are good friends, mentors and companions. The heroine's are tough and brave with hidden magics and they usually fall for a bad boy from the wrong side of the ...war.
Pygmy Dragon by Marc Secchia is a story that grabs you and does not let go. Pip is a very sympathetic pygmy girl, the ultimate outsider yearning for human acceptance. When Pip has the opportunity to escape her brutal situation, she gives up her chance for freedom and stays to help her huge, gorilla-like friend. Her unique abilities, strong moral compass, and indomitable courage make her a marvelous heroine.
I love this book! The world has extra moons, twin suns, and poisonous gas between the islands. Details of dragon life, dragon lore, legends, and the islands bring this unique world to life. The characters are captivating, the dangers are palpable, and the story is perfectly written. I’m really looking forward to reading the sequel!
I enjoy stories about dragons and shifters in general. I really enjoyed this book in particular as the heroine is a Pygmy who started life in the forest, before being captured when her village was attacked and then she spent several years in a zoo with apes.
Her perspective is interesting as she does not understand for a long time why other people even worry about things like clothes and shoes.
The struggle and enemy come into play after her initial story, which really builds understanding of her future thoughts and actions.
Though it was a bit unexpected at the start, all in all, a very satisfying read!
This was a great, fun, wildly imaginative narrative . There were some verbal pictures that made it sound a bit like Hogwarts in describing the caves and how the students were taught and fed on long tables but as it was pretty much taken up with Dragons and Dragon Riders, it did not bother the storyline. Remember again that you will be reading fantasy, not Hemingway so things do get a bit busy in the wordiness but none the less.. fun. The descriptions of the Dragons are very well done and even the fact that there are Shapeshifters and all kinds of nasty critters in it, it does a move along pretty well. I liked the word descriptions of the "world" with several suns and moons. The word "suns shine" for instance. Nicely thought out. Occasionally it can bit a bit hard to follow as to who is doing what to whom , maybe even the when's get in the way but again.. it's a fast paced world at war. If you like a very lush and improbable world then you might very wellenjoy this one. There is a second book and I liked this enough that I will most likely pick it up.
Some books are fun to read and others are skimmed through to find the meat of it while others may ramble on and eventually are laid aside, half read, to gather dust.
