The frenetically-paced action seldom lets up in this new book from Tripp Ellis and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. The premise is: the Imperial Realm rules the galaxy with an iron fist. The Empress has her military forces searching for the last shard - she has four of the five pieces already - of the Crystal of Creation which is reputed to, once combined, give the user access to great power. Enter young Ava, an orphan who has been raised by the Oracles (guardians of the shards of the Crystal of Creation). She is given the last shard by one of the Oracles after Imperial Soturi troops invade the Oracles monastry, killing everyone. She soon finds help from Ray Dakota, a former Imperial Spec Ops soldier and resistance fighter, Grace who is a resistance fighter and former lover of Ray and stim-addicted robot ZV-0. Chased by mob-bosses, mercenaries and the Imperial Soturi, Ava and her new friends have to stay one step ahead lest the shard fall into the hands of the Empress. Valkyrie makes for a great and fun holiday read - looking forward to the next book in the series :)Product details

The book was interesting, but I gave it only four stars because I tended to lose interest in certain parts of the book.
Go all that way and these come back and it's all bad. So the story was very e going w to next one keep writing maybe someone will come back an get you
I was a little skeptical aft first when I read the first chapter, oracles and the empire seemed a little off to me. But, as I read more I liked it more. Plenty of action and plot twists.
Another great book by Tripp Ellis. But where is the next one? we're all hanging for rest of the Galactic Empire series! please update us
George Lucas should be suing the author. This is a straight up re-write of Star Wars.

I think I might have gone with 3.5 stars, but it was good enough that I don't feel terrible about rounding up. It was a good story that was clearly derivative of several different stories. It's safe to say that the author is certainly a fan of Star Wars, because the beginning of the story was straight out of A New Hope, blasting out of Mos Eisley Spaceport...
That being said, it's better than some of the other published scifi, and I've read a lot of it. The editing is spotty, and there are some homonym errors and some misuses of terms... You don't walk around the tokamak of a fusion reactor, a tokamak is a type of fusion reactor, there's no structure by that name. And generally, you say dual reactors, not duel...
The pacing was good, the characters were interesting, if a bit cartoony... All in all, I enjoyed reading it. I'll go pick up some of the other author's work and see how it holds up comparatively.
